Unlike blackjack, where Ace cards are valuable because of their dual point nature, and 10 through King Face cards are generally desired, in baccarat and ace counts only as 1, and 10 through King counts as zero. Only the 2 through 9 cards retain their value.

In fact, you can never get a score of more than 9 points in baccarat. If you have a pair of jacks for example, whether you are betting on the player or the banker, your total is zero. If you have a 9 and a 5, then your total is 4, (14-ten)

Once you’ve got that, you are halfway to understanding the game.

You bet on either the banker, the player, or the tie, and understand the cards are not dealt to you individually like in blackjack.

If either the player or the banker gets a natural, and 8 or 9 total, no more cards will be dealt. However, if neither has a natural, then one more card is dealt if you the player or banker has 5 or less.

Congratulations, you’ve almost completely understood how to play baccarat. But does that mean you have won? No sir.
